Street Presentation Video

The East Baltimore Documentary Photography Project originated in 1975 when Linda Rich, a professor at The Maryland Institute College of Art, attended the annual I am an American Day Parade. Rich was significantly attracted to the atmosphere of East Baltimore, including it’s cleanliness, uniquely painted screens and decorated windows, and the beautiful marble stoops. Rich and two of her students, Elinor Cahn and Joan Netherwood, completed their exploration of several East Baltimore neighborhoods between 1975 and 1980.  During this time, they took over 10,000 photographs and conducted interviews with people who lived in the neighborhoods of Butcher’s Hill, Canton, Fell’s Point, Highlandtown, and Patterson Park.
